ENNEAD (BL) Wiki

Nephthys is the God of Harmony and Peace, the wife of Seth, and the mother of Anubis. She currently serves Isis.

Appearance

Nephthys has pale skin and long, straight, blonde hair that she normally wears down. She normally wears a headdress on the crown of her head in the shape of a white house and a green basket. She wears a white ribbon tied around her head, with the ends falling behind her. She is of average height for a goddess and thin. She usually wears a long black sheath dress, with a square opening over her chest, and a high golden belt. The bottom of the dress resembles reeds. She wears a thick golden usekh or wesekh, with an inner layer of red with golden gems or beads. She wears one thin golden armlet on each lower arm. She has yellow markings over her eyes, and green or blue markings under them.[1] Her upper lip is also painted black.[2] She wears anklets and sometimes wears sandals. She wears long golden bracers on each wrist, with beads connecting to her middle fingers.

Personality

Nephthys is often quite terrified and sad out of guilt for her actions and the actions Seth takes after killing Osiris.

Life

Nephthys loved or loves Osiris,[3] but at some point, Nephthys also marries Seth. Osiris makes Seth infertile, so Nephthys and Seth are unable to produce children, despite Seth's wishes. Not knowing this, but seemingly knowing that Seth is infertile without telling him, she goes to Osiris for help to produce a child, allegedly telling him that she and Seth had agreed to it, and possibly in part because she wants a child with Osiris. Osiris plants his seed in her womb, which produces Anubis, and she lies to Seth that he is Seth's biological son.[4] Seth and Nephthys raise Anubis together alongside Isis and Osiris, and are seemingly happy.

Many years later, Sekhmet tell Seth that Anubis is Osiris' son, and Nephthys walks in on them, and confirms it. Seth angrily goes to confront Osiris for sleeping with Nephthys.

Nephthys tells Isis the story as well, and begs for death. Isis strikes her in anger and leaves.

Isis curses herself and her siblings to never get what they want the most, which for Nephthys is her own death, so Nephthys will seemingly never die so long as Isis' heart does not beat. At some point, supposedly, Isis is imprisoned in a labyrinth, and Nephthys tells her how to escape.[5]

At some point prior to Nephthys' imprisonment in Heliopolis, the supposed actual Nephthys is imprisoned in one of Hathor's hand mirrors.

After Seth takes the throne, Nephthys goes into a prison cell in Heliopolis, and stays there for hundreds of years, despite the fact that it remains unlocked and Seth doesn't keep her there. Anubis begs her to leave, saying that Seth is not the man they loved.

When Horus goes into the mirror Hathor gave him, he meets the alleged "real" Nephthys, and she tells him about her situation, and that a mysterious "her" has plans that will be set in motion once he leaves. She tells him not to forget about her, and to tell Seth about her existence.

During the final match between Seth and Horus for the throne, Nephthys uses the curse Seth placed on Anubis to make a cursed bracelet, which Seth puts on. It incapacitates him, and makes him lose the match.

At the end of the trial between Seth and Horus, Nephthys appears to plead on Seth's behalf, explaining she loved Osiris, that Anubis is Osiris' son, and thus Seth's actions are her fault, as she lied to Seth and drove him mad, resulting in him committing all his evil deeds.[3] She is prepared to give up her divinity to ensure that Seth's soul isn't dissolved.[2] Ra appears and tells her that monogamy is a human norm and doesn't apply to gods, and gods used to partner as they wished, and raised children communally, that their society was intended to be matrilineal, and that Seth's actions are his own.

Anubis disappears.

Nephthys takes a vow of silence,[6] and works with Isis to slowly heal Khnum, in the hopes that when he wakes, he can tell them where Anubis disappeared to.

When Isis starts having issues with her dreams/nightmares, Nephthys appears with a headrest to help her sleep. Nephthys sees Isis' struggles and tries to wake her, but is caught in a power backlash and knocked unconscious. When she wakes, she is trapped in a cell and able to speak. Hathor is brought to see her, and demands to know what Nephthys did to Isis, noting that Nephthys' silence could only be broken by hurting Isis. When Nephthys demands Hathor show respect to the ruler of the palace, Hathor declares that she will soon be queen of Egypt at Horus' side, as Isis approved of their marriage.

When Anubis visits Nephthys, she's shocked at his ascension, and asks where he's been.[7] Anubis explains, and Nephthys explains about her relationship with Osiris and Isis. She expresses confusion that Anubis, as a god, has experienced memory loss. She goes with Anubis to Khnum's side and witnesses Anubis removing the human souls from Khnum, purifying Khnum. She asks Anubis if he can help Isis, too.

Powers

Nephthys is seemingly unable to die.

As a goddess, Nephthys has the power to create children.[2] She can also give this power to others, at least in limited form.

Relationships

Anubis

Anubis loves his mother, and wants her to escape Seth while she can.

Hathor

Hathor doesn't seem to respect Nephthys.[8] Nephthys is seemingly afraid of her.

Isis

Nephthys is supportive of Isis, but also afraid of her, in part out of guilt for coveting Osiris and lying about Anubis' parentage. Isis has said she'll kill Nephthys herself at some point, and faints when she hears Nephthys declare that she loved Osiris.

Osiris

Osiris sees Nephthys as a means to an end of obtaining control of Seth, and intentionally steals Seth's seed so that Seth and Nephthys couldn't have children together. Nephthys says that she loved Osiris, at least at some point in the past.[3] She imprisoned herself for hundreds of years out of guilt for hurting her family due to this.

Ra

Nephthys seems to be terrified of Ra. Ra doesn't think much of Nephthys attempts to act more human, as human laws and norms don't apply to gods.

Seth

As the wife and sister of Seth, as well as the mother of Anubis, Seth once and still holds great love for Nephthys. He states he "loved her with all his heart". After he learns the truth about Nephthys' and Osiris' deception, Seth is grief-stricken, which eventually leads to the altercation between Seth and Osiris. Despite this, Seth considers Nephthys a victim. She believes she has to stay by his side, as penance for loving Osiris.[3]
